Google Nexus 5 Biggest Threat to iPhone 5C? Get Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, LG G2 Design, Top-Notch Hardware at $300 Only!
Google's Nexus 5 has been rumoured to have similar specifications and design with LG's Optimus G2 smartphone. The upcoming smartphone is also expected to run Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie with cheaper price tag compared to other flagship handsets. Is iPhone 5c going to catch up with Nexus 5?
Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie
October 2013 is the expected launching date of Google's major Android iteration and overhaul of the world's most dominant mobile platform. Android 5.0 is also rumoured to be well-optimised so that older Android phones supporting 2.3 Gingerbread with 512MB RAM can run the latest version. Here are some details about Android 5.0 wish list:
1. Performance Profiles: Selection of profiles for managing performance such as for bedtime, gaming, reading and low-power state.
2. Multiple device support: Enthusiasts are expecting better integration among Android devices such as playback resume from a phone to a tablet.
3. Enhanced social network support: Android OS doesn't have its own social integration unlike with Sony (Socialife) which compiled Facebook and Twitter in one widget and app.
4. Own video chat: Up to this day even with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Android remains zero video chat app on its own. Android users need to download third-party apps to get the service.
5. Cross device SMS sync: For travellers and SIM swappers, SMS can be a problem especially if there is no syncing. Hopefully in Android 5.0, Google can create a cloud-service for SMS syncing.
Some other features Android 5.0 should update as well:
- New camera UI with several shooting modes
- Even better UI and experience than Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
- Customisable application drawer including "hide app" option
- More themes and ringtones
- Battery life optimisation

SlashGear revealed the speculated preview of Nexus 5's hardware specifications:

- Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor
- Internal storage of 16 and 32GB
- 2GB of RAM
- Multi-mode modified carrier support
- 3000 mAh battery pack
- 13MP camera
- 5.5 inches in height and 2.8 inches in width
Pricing
LG Nexus 4 was priced under the $300 category which way cheaper compared to other flagship smartphones and if Google releases Nexus 5 close to this price level featuring powerful technology, even Apple's iPhone 5s may not win since most Apple devices are very expensive for the masses.
Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, LG Optimus G2 and Sony Xperia Z are also not going to compete with the low price range offered by Nexus devices. Google will surely make their handsets inexpensive yet powerful.
