Is Google's Android Jelly Bean Better than Apple's iOS 6?
Google has just unveiled its latest Android version which is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean during the ongoing Google I/O 2012. Barely a month before that, Apple also unveiled its latest OS which iOS 6. The battle between the best OS is on and many people are asking this very important questions: Which is better? Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or Apple's iOS 6?
Before answering this question, it would be best to consider all the features that are included in these new updates from Google and Apple. Here is a brief summary of these new features:
Apple's iOS 6
Apple's iOS 6 was first introduced during the WWDC 2012 and unfortunately, not all devices will be upgraded to iOS 6. The only Apple devices that would be upgraded with iOS 6 includes iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4th Generation, iPad 2, and the new iPad. The new OS from Apple offers new features and some of which includes the following:
Siri - Siri, the popular virtual assistant will also experience an upgrade with this new iOS version. Siri is now updated with more information from a wide range of subjects like sports news, film, and daily functions.
Facebook Integration - Through this new iOS, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter would be easier to access without the need of a third party application. Users can just log-in once and they would be able to access these social networking sites easily.
Apple Maps - Another thing that the iOS 6 brings to Apple devices is their own mapping system. Apple decided not to use Google Maps for this feature and instead have their own mapping solution with additional features. These features include turn-by-turn navigation, updated traffic information, and other helpful information while navigating the road.
Facetime - Facetime also gets an upgrade through iOS 6. Facetime can now work through 3G connections which is a big improvement before since Facetime could only work if there is Wi-Fi at both ends. Though Facetime being available through 3G, it is much easier to utilize and access this app.
Apple's iOS 6 beta version is already out for developers. It will be officially launched to the public by fall.
Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Barely a year after Google introduced Android 4.0 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich), a new Android OS was announced at the Google I/O 2012 in San Francisco. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would officially debut in Google's own tablet called the Google Nexus 7 Tablet. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would include additional features such as:
Dual Boot with Chrome OS and Windows 8 - There are rumors that Android Jelly Bean would be able to support dual boot with other types of OS. More particularly, Google's Chrome OS. There are other reports suggesting a more complicated OS which is the recently launched OS, Microsoft's Windows 8.
Improved User Interface - According to reports, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would bring additional improvement in user interface for both tablets and smartphones. Such improvements include a new search bar with transparency, a new background image, and changes in the clock feature.
Siri-type Application - Siri, the popular virtual assistant from Apple has become a hit to users and many Android customers are also clamoring for the same app to appear on Android-based devices. There are rumors that Jelly Bean might be coming up with their own Siri-type feature. The release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean might be the perfect time to launch this new feature.
The beta version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been rolled out to developers and it will be made public by mid-July of this year.
The Verdict
It is hard to decide at this point on which OS is best as both have its own strengths and weaknesses. Aside from that, both OS are still in its "beta stage" wherein the room for bugs and errors are still prominent. It would be best to make a logical decision once both the iOS 6 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are officially rolled out to the public.
