Google's Ingress Reality Game: From Android to iOS in 2014 [PHOTOS]
Google's Ingress reality game which is currently available in Android devices will reportedly be made available for iOS users in 2014.
Ingress, created by Niantic Labs, is an augmented-reality (AR) massively multiplayer online video game wherein players attempt to conquer territory in the real world. Players must capture or defend portals in special areas like libraries and then link them to enclose the areas.
It is a closed-beta software so, in order to play this game, an invite must be requested at this link. Once an invite is accepted, then the game can begin. As mentioned earlier, it is only available to Android users right now.
In an interview with All Things D, Brandon Badger, Ingress product manager for Google said that the company was working on the game for iOS, but it won't launch until 2014. Although he didn't say when exactly will the game be made available for iPad and iPhone users.
Badger also mentioned that Niantic Labs hopes to use what it learns about location-based gaming from Ingress to create a mobile platform that will allow outside developers to make location-based games.
So, what are augmented-reality games?
An augmented-reality game is a live view of an actual real-world environment with elements that are amplified or accompanied by a video, sound, graphics or Global Positioning System (GPS) data. The said elements are computer-generated.
It aims to provide a realistic game filled with intrigues, competition and mystery.
Basically, Ingress is about a mysterious energy discovered by some European scientists. It is believed to be influencing how people think. Players must choose between two alliances, which are known as The Enlightened or The Resistance.
If they go with The Enlightened (Green), then their mission is to embrace the power of the energy, but if they choose to be with The Resistance (Blue), their mission is to defend and protect humanity.
Sources of the mysterious energy can be tapped in the real world using an Android device. In 2014, iOS devices can also be used to play Ingress. The cool thing about this game is that there will be available objects and technology to aid a player's mission, including an Intelligence map that can be used to communicate with other players and form alliances.
Ingress uses the Niantic Project, which is an investigation board wherein players can obtain clues and secret codes to help achieve their goal towards victory. Each week, new clues will be provided by Google.

iOS users who want to play Ingress may have to wait for a while. But it will be 2014 in a few months. By that time, the game would be much more improved than the version currently used by Android users.
