The children of Marvin Gaye filed a case against top charting singer Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams as they believe that the song was a copyright infringement of "Got to Give It Up," a song by their father Marvin Gaye.

According to a report at E!Online, the children of Gaye said that the song "Blurred Lines" is very much similar to their father's hit song "Got to Give It up". The children said that Thicke's other song "Love After War" is also the same to their father's "After the Dance".

According to Thicke, he and Pharrell Williams were in the studio and they started thinking about a beat that people could really enjoy and in an interview given by Thicke to GQ Magazine he had said that Gaye was an inspiration to his music:

"Pharrell and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favorite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye's 'Got to Give It Up.' I was like, 'Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.' Then he started playing a little something and we literally wrote the song in about a half hour and recorded it."

And though Thicke does acknowledge the influence that Gaye has in his music, he did make sure to clear all these allegations that were thrown at him by the Gaye family and Thicke said:

"Being reminiscent of a 'sound' is not copyright infringement, The intent in producing 'Blurred Lines' was to evoke an era."

With everything that has been said by both sides, it may be a bit the same but there is a difference.

There are some parts that are a bit similar to the "Blurred Lines" track and after listening to it closely, one can say that it may have been more than just an inspiration to the chart topping "Blurred Lines" song, which has almost the same background beats.
