GOT7’s BamBam Launches Second Album, Talks About Pressure As A Solo Artist
Boyband GOT7's Bambam released his second album, “B!” on Tuesday and reflected on his experiences performing without his bandmates after they left JYP Entertainment in 2021.
Bambam revealed that he sometimes gets lonely as a solo artist but relishes the freedom he now has as far as his musical career is concerned.
“For starters, it’s an advantage that I can make the music I want to make. In the future when we promote as GOT7, I’ll be able to showcase GOT7’s image for the first time in a while,” Bambam was quoted as saying by Soompi.
“On the other hand, a disadvantage is that there’s a bit of pressure and I get lonely sometimes. Also, when I was promoting in a team, I could hide the aspects I wasn’t confident in. Now that I’m solo, I feel like everything has to be perfect. However, I see it as experience and a good opportunity to grow,” he added.
Bambam, also known as Kunpimook Bhuwakul, launched "B!" after his first solo album, "riBBon," hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums charts in at least 34 regions, including Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Singapore, Peru and Indonesia in June 2021.
The 24-year-old musician is hoping his new album would get the same love as his first album. “I felt pressure regarding whether I’d do as well as ‘riBBon’ and whether people would give me that same amount of love. Since [“B”] is an album I’m personally satisfied with, I believe many people will like it," he said in the report.
Despite pulling out of their agency, GOT7 members maintain their close friendship even as they are now pursuing solo career moves. Bambam said the members are also discussing plans on making a comeback as a boyband.
“In our group chat, the GOT7 members give a lot of feedback. The thing we talk about most is, ‘When is your comeback?’ and we’ve even said stuff like ‘Let’s not overlap [promotions].’ I didn’t play them my song because I wanted to surprise them. We also talk a lot about GOT7 promotions,” he said.
“Two days ago (Sunday) was our eighth anniversary. The seven of us couldn’t get together but we gathered through live broadcasts and talked. I even have a song I wrote while thinking of GOT7. I know when it’ll be released but I can’t say,” Bambam added.
GOT7 pulled out of JYP Entertainment in January 2021, seven years after the band's debut in 2014.
Even before parting ways with JYP, members of the group -- comprising JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom -- had been working on different solo projects.
JB produces songs under the pseudonym “Def” while Mark is releasing a solo track, “My Life,” on Friday. Jackson Wang is on the cover of Cosmopolitan China for February and Jinyoung is currently starring in the Netflix drama, “The Devil Judge.”
Youngjae shined in his role in Netflix’s “So Not Worth It” which premiered in 2021 and Yugyeom released his mini album, “Point Of View: U,” in June 2021.
