“Gotham” Season 3 is currently in its mid-season break, but FOX provided some official images for the next two episodes airing in January 2017. Fans are particularly excited about the rumoured return of the Joker (Cameron Monaghan).

The January 16 episode will be titled, “Ghosts,” while the January 23 episode will be titled, “Smile Like You Mean It.” Fans are particularly excited about the return of Joker. He may debut in the January 23 episode, as hinted by the leaked photo.

In “Ghosts,” the initial video teased that Jerome has become quite a celebrity among many people, especially after his supposed death. Cameron Monaghan previously mentioned that he would return to “Gotham” on several occasions, including the “Smile Like You Mean It” episode. The makeup shown on the top half of the character’s face is similar to the comic version where the Joker’s face was removed. It can also mean that Dollmaker (Colm Feore) will return, the character who took out Joker’s face in the comics. It is still unclear how Jerome’s body went to the GCPD lab.

There are also rumours that Joker’s return will be connected to “The Dark Knight,” with the presence of David Dastmalchian in one scene from “Ghosts,” writes ScreenCrush. Dastmalchian previously played Thomas Schiff, a follower of Joker (Heath Ledger) in the 2008 Batman film by Christopher Nolan. The actor may most likely come back to reprise his role as aide to the laughing villain, although the surrounding conditions are still unconfirmed. “Gotham” producers previously hinted that a Joker cult will be forming in Season 3 and 4, as Jerome’s legacy continues to grow after his death.

ComicBook stated that an official synopsis for the next “Gotham” episodes is still unavailable, but the new photos reveal Lee uncovering Jerome’s corpse, Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) and Babs (Erin Richards) looking into each other’s eyes, a police officer getting run over by a GCPD car, Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) holding a knife and Selina (Camren Bicondova), Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Alfred (Sean Pertwee).

Gotham returns on FOX in January 2017. It will also air of SyFy in Australia. More updates and details are expected soon.
