Grant Hackett told 60 Minutes on Channel Nine he wanted to end his marriage with Candice Alley, but she was "totally unharmed" the night he broke down and had a violent outburst in their family home. The interview drew mixed reactions from the audience. Some of them took to Twitter to shout out their insights.

"I just continued to push over furniture and make a mess," Hackett said. He recalled: "I was sobbing and then a policeman knocked on the door."

The interview did not elaborate Hackett's reasons for wanting to end his marriage. He had split with his wife after a drunken night at this year's Logies.

Alley reportedly asked her legal team to stop the broadcast of the 60 Minutes interview, but Nine did not comment on such news.

Although the former Olympic swimmer admitted he was drunk, he claimed he did not have alcohol problem.

"I don't blame the alcohol, I blame myself," he said.

News.com.au called the outburst, "The Incredible Sulk."

Herald Sun spoke to one of Hackett's friends who said the apartment trashing was "totally out of character."

"There's more to it that will come out. He hasn't had a chance to have his say yet. After he does he'll have a lot more support," the friend said.
