'Gravity' Box Office Report: Kills Tom Hanks's 'Captain Phillips' And Formula One Movie 'Rush'
The makers of "Gravity" have yet another reason to rejoice-- The Sandra Bullock and George Clooney pair has managed to bring its total box office haul to $125 million, thus making it the highest grossing film of the season.
The film pulled extensive amount of audience to the theaters, within 11 days of its release; surpassing Tom Hanks's "Captain Phillips" and the formula one racing film "Rush". "Captain Phillips" and "Rush", since their release have logged 63 million and 22 million respectively.
Meanwhile, "Gravity", owing to its theme, is being called by the industry experts as the "Next Avatar". The film is shot in 3D and follows the life to two astronauts (played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) stuck in space. It is an emotional and heart wrenching story of survival. The film was premièred at the 70th Venice International Film Festival and opened to tremendously positive critical response.
Richard Corliss of "Time" proclaimed that, "Gravity" shows things that cannot be but, miraculously, are, in the fearful, beautiful reality of the space world above our world. If the film past is dead, Alfonso Cuarón Orozco film shows us the glory of cinema's future. It thrills on so many levels. And because Cuarón is a movie visionary of the highest order, you truly can't beat the view."
Sandra Bullock has been immensely praised for her performance in the film and is being considered the strongest bet for the 2013 Academy Awards. This is Sandra's best performance by far and she literally moves the audience to tears with her poignant portrayal.
Regarding Sandra's role, Variety wrote,"Bullock inhabits the role with grave dignity and hints at Stone's past scars with sensitivity and tact, and she holds the screen effortlessly once Gravity becomes a veritable one-woman show... ...the actress remains fully present emotionally, projecting a very appealing combo of vulnerability, intelligence and determination that not only wins us over immediately, but sustains attention all the way through the cathartic closing reels."
Previously Sandra Bullock has won an Oscar for her role in the movie "The Blind Side".
