Great whites respond to AC/DC's music, shark expert confirms
It seems that hair-raising rockers aren't the only ones who think AC/DC's music is bloody killer. A tourism operator at Eyre Peninsula has noticed a seemingly bizarre happening every time he visits the vicious predators at Neptune Islands located at south of Port Lincoln.
Matt Waller, the tourism operator, is amused to find out that great white sharks 'truly' respond to the music of AC/DC; particularly the songs You Shook Me All Night Long and If You Want Blood - songs that couldn't be more fitting. Waller's Adventure Bay charter company sails down to Shark Bay at Neptune Islands to assist tourists in viewing the great whites, and he wanted to do something that will make the experience memorable. After researching on how to attract sharks, Waller found out sharks best respond to sounds ranging from 20 to 1000 hertz. Waller, a big AC/DC fan, knew about the band's low frequency style of music and he didn't hesitate to test it on the world's largest predatory fish.
After playing the sound non-stop, Waller noticed a group of sharks swimming in the direction where the sound is coming from. "I've seen the sharks rub their faces on the cage where the sound is coming from as if to feel it", says Waller in a report posted by The Herald Sun. Waller wishes to continue playing AC/DC's music to further his group's research on the sharks' peculiar reaction to low frequency sounds. Even without the scientific explanation, it sure sounds cool to hear sharks love rocking to AC/DC.
AC/DC is a legendary Aussie hard rock band formed in 1973 who has released 19 studio albums and won countless awards including the ARIA songwriters of the year. In 2010, the band released a compilation album entitled Iron Man 2.
