The new Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds was declared the Sexiest Man Alive 2010 by People Magazine. The Hollywood star attributes his physique to his training for the lead role in the movie adaptation of the popular comic series, which is set to be released next year.

For the Sexiest crown, Reynolds had beaten Justin Timberlake, Jake Gyllenhaal, Drake, Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy), and Matthew Morrison (Glee).

Ryan said that now that he was crowned the Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine, his wife Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson will now have a new term of endearment for him.

"Now it's going to be, 'Sexiest man, take out the garbage.' That does sound better," Ryan tells People.

"The most difficult part is going to be organically working this title into a conversation with random strangers."

Ryan is preceded by Johnny Depp (2009) and Hugh Jackman (2008) as Sexiest Man Alive. Reynolds is the 25th man to be declared by People Magazine as the Sexiest Man Alive.

Sexiest Man Alive is an annual feature in People Magazine. According to Wikipedia, it is billed as a benchmark of male attractiveness, determined in a similar procedure to Time's Person of the Year.

Mel Gibson was the first man to be awarded the title in 1984, when the Hollywood actor was 29-year old. John F. Kennedy was the youngest man to be declared as the Sexiest at 27-years old in 1988, the only non-actor to be be given the title and is the first title-holder to have died (the second one is Patrick Swayze.) James Bond actors Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan are also in the list, with the former also being the oldest person to receive the title at 59-years old.

Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Richard Gere won the award twice, although Gere orginally won Sexiest Couple in 1993, with Cindy Crawford, before bagging the title in 1999.
