A quick recap: Last night, on Grey's Anatomy at SEVEN, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) asks, "What if?"

She is in a good place now. She and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) are stable, and they are now officially mom and dad. But she wonders, "What if one little thing I said or did could have made it all fall apart? What if I've chosen another life for myself?"

She concludes the episode by saying, "Some things are going to work out as if they were destined to happen... as if they were just meant to be."

(The Aussie viewers who try to stay away from spoilers should not read on. This contains some spoilers as Grey's Anatomy is running its season finale Thursday night in the US.)

Meredith's words at the end of last night's episode will echo towards the end of the season. "If/Then" is only the 13th episode of Season 8. By Episode 22, the residents will find out whether or not they passed the most important exam in their lives. In Episode 23, the residents will choose a new workplace.

At the end of this episode, Seattle Grace's prized doctors will figure in a plane crash. In "Flight," the season finale, "a beloved character" will die. (Spoiler alert was raised.)

This season has been such a major roller coaster ride for many characters. The writers have done a great job in keeping the momentum of the series. What's even better, is that the writers are not afraid to further shake things up.

Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey's, has revealed in recent interviews that "a beloved character" will die in the season finale. The manner in which the character dies is so tragic that writers cried while developing the story. Fans have since guessed who this character will be, and soon, answers will be revealed.

"Some things are going to work out as if they were destined to happen," Meredith said. An episode before the finale, she is seen lying on the ground, waking up from what could possibly be a fatal plane crash.

The "original" chief (James Pickens, Jr.) is hosting a dinner party in the finale. How this pans out in the heels of a tragic plane crash could set things in order for the next season.

Yes, ABC has signed Grey's Anatomy for another season. In fact, reports say the six remaining original cast is coming back for not one -- but two more years! So, who will not be a part of Season 9? Will the original cast stay at Seattle Grace?

There is so much to ask, and a lot more to look forward to in Grey's Anatomy.
