Grey's Anatomy Season 10: Shonda Rhimes Talks Calzona, Crowen, Jolex Insights
Grey's Anatomy Season 10 is expected to revolve around the couples being widely shipped by fans: Calzona (Callie and Arizona), Crowen (Cristina and Owen) and Jolex (Jo and Alex). Series creator Shonda Rhimes has spoken about these pairs in separate interviews recently. What insights are running through her mind?
Calzona (Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins). Callie realizes she has lost Arizona. The latter cannot forgive her wife for making the call on amputating her leg. Some fans have resigned to the idea that this couple is doomed. In fact, "RIP Calzona" was a common tweet on the night of Grey's Anatomy Season 9 finale.
"I've done lot of reading on PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and grief and these people have been through a hell of a lot this season and we've watched them struggle to right themselves fairly quickly -- perhaps too quickly. There's stuff there that has not been dealt with. We're taking them through it, which I think is great, and Lauren is definitely possibly a part of that," Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter. Perhaps there is hope that once Arizona confronts her PTSD, it would sink in that all Callie did was save her life. How long will this journey be, Ms Rhimes?
Crowen (Cristina Yang and Owen Hunt). In a separate interview, Rhimes said Cristina Yang will definitely not have a child. The Grey's creator seems to take pride in presenting a character, a woman, who is determined to not have a child. It is a different life, a rather unpopular one, but she reckons that is what makes Yang special. Those hoping Yang would have a change of heart can face Rhimes' reality now.
What could this mean to Owen Hunt? He definitely wants to have kids. The viewers have seen this on his interaction with Zola. There probably is more to the Ethan storyline in Grey's Anatomy Season 10. Yang has asked him a sensible question: Does he feel with her the same high she gets when she's making a breakthrough as a surgeon?
Jolex (Jo Wilson and Alex Karev). "There's a journey that happens in these last two episodes for him with Jo as they move through the storm," Rhimes said. The viewers are used to seeing Karev fall head over heels only to wind up in some serious relationship drama. Could this finally be Karev's happy ever after? Then again, it's Karev. Things always get messed up, somehow.
Grey's Anatomy Season 9, according to Rhimes, was the "season of romance." It is looking as though Season 10 would be the "season of break-ups."
