Spoiler alert: This update recaps the highlights of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11, Episode 13. Read on at your own risk.
Nicole Herman’s (Geena Davis) tumour has grown sooner than Amelia Shepard (Caterina Scorsone) anticipated. Toward the end of Greys 11x13, Herman is in Amelia’s OR, realizing she could be staring at the end. Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) provides morale support, asking her mentor to trust Amelia.
Callie (Sara Ramirez) talks to Arizona, giving her some caution against being close to Herman. She’s dying, Callie says. Arizona thanks her ex-wife, but she does not want to keep the conversation going. “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11, Episode 13 is largely about Herman and Callie’s perspective on the situation.
Callie also brazenly asks Amelia – in front of their peers and interns: Is she getting her brother Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) help to remove Herman’s tumour? Is she fit enough? Amelia has just come from a shouting episode out of frustration when Callie asked the questions.
A promo clip of the next new Grey’s episode shows Callie has more to say about Shepard’s operation. Meredith, Owen, Maggie and Karev are not affected by the Herman brain surgery storyline. Only Callie has been critical of Amelia’s plans on and Arizona’s relationship with Herman.
Incidentally, Entertainment Weekly reported the brain scan (tumour added later) used in Amelia’s presentation in Grey’s Anatomy Season 11, Episode 13 is owned by Geena Davis herself. Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes promoted this on Twitter.
“Davis’ brain is something of an overachiever. For one, it’s so large that it didn’t fit in the box doctors use to frame brains for examinations,” EW’s Natalie Abrams reported.
The next new episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” titled “The Distance,” airs on Mar. 5. Fans hope to see what happens next to Herman, and the other characters affected by her condition.
