Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Episode 14, "The Face of Change," places former friends-with-benefits couple Jackson Avery and April Kepner in a competition to be the face of Seattle Grace Mercy West.

Avery and Kepner are now moving on, but could this rivalry bring them closer again? Meanwhile, series creator Shonda Rhimes has spoken about the finale episode, saying it will not necessarily be about a catastrophe.

The Grey's episode this week has the following synopsis from TV.com:

"Competition heats up as several of the doctors fight to become the new face of Seattle Grace; April brings in an emergency case, and Jackson and Alex work with a transgender teen couple. Meanwhile, the hospital implements new policies which test the patience of the staff."

Shonda Rhimes: 'I would not consider it to be a catastrophe'

Grey's Season 9 finale is still a good three months away, but Shonda Rhimes does not shy away from talking about it this early.

"I have a general idea of what the finale is going to be, but it's been evolving as the season progresses," Rhimes told TVLine's Michael Ausiello. "At this moment in time, I would not consider it to be a catastrophe."

Rhimes' statement comes as both intriguing and alarming. It hints something seemingly bad is about to happen, but it will be dialed down by some silver lining. Last season's finale was a clear-cut catastrophe. It brought the end of Lexis Grey's life on the series. What has been "evolving" since Season 9 premiered?

In last week's episode, it was established that Dr. Cahill has been "staging" the hospital, "like a house," as Derek said. Apparently, Derek's budget management strategy will not be enough to keep the hospital from shutting down. And Dr Cahill has a buyer. Does this plane crash aftermath play out up to the finale?
