Grey's Anatomy Season 9 finale will take viewers to another dramatic ride resulting in "a lot of emotional death." What happens next to Alex Karev, Cristina Yang, and the beloved Calzona? Series creator Shonda Rhimes dishes some finale scoop.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 finale, "Super Storm," is expected to take Grey's characters to an emotional journey they will not soon forget. But things are not going to be as brutal as in the Season 8 finale. In fact, there may even be some good news on the horizon for Alex Karev. As for Cristina Yang and the Calzona couple, things are not as good.

"I don't think we're going to match [Grey's Anatomy Season 8 finale] but for a lot of our characters, [Season 9 finale is] much more emotional. There's a lot of emotional death," Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans of Alex Karev will "discover some interesting things for him," Rhimes said. Fans of Jolex (Jo Wilson and Alex) certainly have questions after last week's near-kiss moment.

"Not all is as it seems coming out of last [week]'s episode," said Rhimes, adding "There's a journey that happens in these last two episodes for him with Jo as they move through the storm."

Cristina Yang could almost feel some palpable trouble in her relationship with Owen Hunt. Even as a divorced couple in a sexually active and loving relationship, they will deal with their fundamental difference. He wants a child, but she would rather nurture her career. Where do they go now?

Greys Anatomy Season 9 has been largely about Calzona - Callie's support for Arizona while she's grieving Sloan's death. A Calzona scene is likely to take many avid viewers' breath away. But not in a good way. "(T)he entire cast gasped and fell silent," Rhimes said about a particular Calzona scene that viewers should anticipate. Those who've seen last week's episode know things are bound to get worse (again) before they get better (again) for this couple.

As for the Japril (Jackson Avery and April Kepner) story, there's more after last week's major changes. Rhimes said April "has another life-changing moment that turns her in another direction" in the Grey's Anatomy 9 finale. This "directly and indirectly involve(s) Jackson." What (else) could it be?

Will Alex Karev finally be less angsty and grumpy? Which character relates the most to Rhimes' "emotional death" reference?
