Grey's Anatomy Season 9 will not air a new episode on Thursday, October 11. Instead, ABC will air the U.S. Vice Presidential Debates from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

The series will return next week for this season's third episode, called, "Love the One You're With."

SPOILER ALERT: The following text contains spoilers for those who have not watched Grey's Anatomy Season 9.

Two episodes into Season 9, the series is not yet attending to random hospital cases. The season premiere showed how the survivor characters are doing 30 days after their rescue. It was the episode that showed Mark Sloan's death. The second episode delves into the dark struggles of the crash victims and how Sloan tried to comfort everyone after their rescue. (He was unbelievably upbeat compared to Yang's catatonic state.)

What's in store for the third episode? We see the characters move on again. But before that, take a look at how the Grey's characters have been doing this season:

Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) - She has become "the new Bailey" at Seattle Grace Mercy West. No mediocre surgeon could pass her tests. Real life is tougher than she's ever imagined, and she wants all surgeons to be prepared for the tragedies out there, especially during emergencies. But she and hubby Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) are thankful to be alive.

Knowing Meredith, there will be a major unleash of pent up emotions concerning her sister's death. Perhaps soon.

Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) - From catatonic to fleeing survivor, Yang is determined to get her life back in order. Even if it means fleeing from everyone she's ever known since her internship at Seattle Grace. But she soon realizes that she's never leaving Meredith behind. And maybe Owen (Kevin McKidd), too. A reconciliation may be under way between Yang and Hunt. She knows how much he took care of her before she was able to say that she "can't get out."

Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) - He couldn't board his plane to John Hopkins. He couldn't leave behind the project for which he gained Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) respect. He could be the one to help Arizona snap out of it. Callie (Sara Ramirez) needs him. She could be her new Sloan, the best friend she could rely on for a no holds barred discussion. Dempsey is good, but his language is so polished. Callie and Arizona need someone who will not sugarcoat anything for their mind. They need Karev.

Are you pleased with the way series creator Shonda Rhimes has developed Grey's Anatomy's ninth season so far?
