Grey’s Anatomy Season 9: Shonda Rhimes Won’t Tell -- Will Arizona Robbins Survive? [SPOILER ALERT]
Grey's Anatomy Season 9 will air its premiere a month from now. Yet series creator Shonda Rhimes won't even tease on what awaits Arizona Robbins after the plane crash.
Family factor
Jessica Capshaw, the actress playing Arizona's role, has recently given birth to her third child. Some fans are worried that she might decide to leave the show to prioritize some family time. Capshaw's second and third children with husband Christopher Gavigan were born after she became a series regular at Grey's.
Spoiler Alert: If you have not seen the Season 8 finale of Grey's Anatomy, you might want to stop reading now.
Bad leg and internal bleeding
At Grey's Season 8 finale, the pilot, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Robbins were left virtually immobile by the crash. Leigh's beloved character has died, while Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) sort of confirmed the pilot's legs would be amputated. Robbins had started coughing blood, but viewers have yet to find out the extent of her injuries. This situation would allow the creative team at Grey's to let Robbins die. But will they?
Alex Karev to replace Robbins?
In a separate interview, Rhimes said Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) would find a new love in Season 9. It will be recalled that he left Robbins a touching voice mail, explaining why he had to leave Seattle Grace. Karev said he needed to find out if he could make it without Robbins virtually holding his hand every step of the way.
Now, it seems Robbins would not be able to hold Karev's hands - for the time being, or for good. Will viewers find Karev taking the place of Robbins at the pediatrics department?
Answers after the first episode
Speaking to TV Guide, Rhimes hinted it is too early to speak about what will happen to Arizona Robbins in Grey's Season 9.
"The first episode would have to air, and then I'm happy to talk about it, but I don't want to say anything yet," she said.
