Grigor Dimitrov Travels Back To Bulgaria To Get Rest Ahead Of The 2015 Season
Grigor Dimitrov has decided to return to his home town in Bulgaria after a long and successful season. The 11th-ranked tennis athlete has traveled back home in the Southeastern European country to get some rest before he begins his 2015 season.
According to Standart News Dimitrov is already in Bulgaria. The news outlet didn't reveal when Dimitrov arrived in his home country, but it has been reported that he was on the plane with controversial French actor Gerard Depardieu. Dimitrov revealed that Depardieu, who is filming a movie in the Bulgaria, had even asked from his autograph.
Dimitrov said that he plans to spend his holiday in Bulgaria and other places abroad. However, he did not elaborate on his exact holiday plans. Dimitrov also refused to answer any questions about her girlfriend Maria Sharapova.
Dimitrov's last played in the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, where he suffered defeat to Andy Murray in the third round, 6-3, 6-3. He has a record of 50-18 and won three titles in Acapulco, Bucharest, and Queen's Club in the 2014 season. Dimitrov may have failed to finish in the top eight but this season had been the strongest one for the Bulgarian athlete. Dimitrov broke into the Top 10 in July. He achieved his career-high singles ranking at the eighth spot in August.
On November 1, Dimitrov tweeted and thanked his fans for their support on his 2014 campaign. "Thank you all for an amazing year, I can't tell you how much your support has meant, already looking forward to 2015."
Dimitrov recently turned down an offer as a second alternate spot in the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, Stevegtennis reports. David Ferrer accepted the first alternate spot, but Dimitrov, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Ernests Gulbis rejected the offer.
Dimitrov explained that he wants to be able to play in London with his own earned efforts. He added that he doesn't want to accept the offer hoping that someone gets injured just so he could play in the season-ending tournament at the O2 Arena. Tsonga snubbed the offer because he wanted to focus on the Davis Cup final, while Gulbis declined due to a shoulder injury. Spaniard Feliciano Lopez has substituted them for the second alternate spot at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
