‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Director Says Yondu Is A ‘Big Softie’ When It Comes To Peter Quill
James Gunn, the writer and director of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," shared some of his thoughts about the characters in the upcoming movie. He spoke about Yondu's relationship with Peter Quill and how the man from earth may not be in trouble in the upcoming movie.
The previous movie of the franchise showed that Yondu was tricked by Peter towards the end of the movie. The two characters share a complex relationship in the movie with Yondu threatening to kill Peter in one instant but laughing and patting him the next moment after hearing his plan.
The only reason Yondu spared Peter's life was because he was promised the Infinity stone, which was in the hands of Ronan. Peter Quill switched the orb that contained the Infinity stone towards the end and Yondu found a troll doll inside. Will he threaten to kill Peter Quill again in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2"?
According to James Gunn, that may not be the case. The director sat down for an interview with Screen Junkies to answer some of the fans' questions. The video shows the director sharing with fans that although Yondu may be mad at Peter Quill viewers will see him as a "big softie" by the end of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2."
James Gunn said that Yondu is proud of Peter for giving him that doll and that the character likes such dolls. "Maybe the doll will mean more to him than the Infinity stone," the director said. He did not however explicitly confirm that Yondu will be featuring in the next movie but said that Michael Rooker was a good friend who has been a part of all his movies so far.
James Gunn also revealed at least two songs from the "Awesome Mix Vol 2" that will be featuring in his upcoming movie. The director shared that the fans have already heard the song "Ain't no mountain high enough" from the tape. The song "I want you back" will probably feature in the next movie.
The main plot and cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" has still not been revealed by James Gunn but he did highlight the point that the franchise is different from the "Avengers" movies that also features Infinity stones. He said the impact of the other Marvel franchise may be very little on his upcoming movie.
