Michael Rooker is set to reprise his role as Yondu in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2." The character, being one of the original Guardians in the original comicbook source, is believed to be one of the key elements in the sequel and Rooker himself explains why.

In an interview with Screenrant, the actor recalled how movie director James Gunn already pictured him in the script even in the first movie. As a friend and longtime collaborator, Rooker admitted he was thrilled when the director assured him that "he was going to write something" for the actor. However, Rooker revealed he wasn't informed of his role "for quite awhile" during the writing process until Gunn approached him and told him the details.

Nearing the end of "GOTG" Yondu is portrayed not as the bad guy but as the eventual hero. Even though he is a killer and a scavenger he comes to save the day. He even raised Star Lord as his own son, which according to Screenrant puts him in the "morally gray" category among the villains. With Yondu set to return in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," Rooker was asked whether the character will pick sides and eventually turn to the good side.

"I think Yondu would pick the side that best suits him and probably what would garner him to have the most wages and the best... Yondu is this kind of character that, for his whole life, he's worked for himself," he said.

However, Rooker claimed it's still uncertain what happens to his character in the sequel. Whether he would become a potential hero remains to be seen. However, the actor revealed the events in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" would determine Yondu's fate, since they could have "the potential of going either way and a little mixture of both."

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will finally reveal the true identity of Star Lord's father. Kevin Feige had previously confirmed its certainty as being an important part of the film with IGN. However, Michael Rooker declines to reveal any details when asked. Instead, he broached on the story that the reason Yondu raised Peter Quill as his own was because his true father was a "jackass."
