"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is slated to be released on July 28, 2017 in the U.S. and the UK. The movie will be written and directed by James Gunn. Here is a look at some of the villains the director can choose from the Marvel universe for the movie.

Readers who are expecting to see a bigger role for Thanos in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" may be disappointed. Speaking to Empireonline, the director said that the super villain will not play a significant role in the upcoming movie and will only appear if the story demands it.

Villain #1 - Nebula

Movie buffs may have seen Nebula being defeated in "Guardians of the Galaxy," but there is no reason to suspect that the character is dead. She may return any time the director feels the need. She is an important character with links to both Gamora and Thanos.

Villain #2 - Adam Warlock

Movie buffs who have seen "Guardians of the Galaxy" may remember seeing a cocoon in the vault of the Collector. Adam Warlock often used a cocoon to heal himself in the Marvel universe. The insane character finds it difficult to tell the difference between good and evil.

Villain #3 - Skrulls

The Skrulls are Orc like aliens from the Andromeda Galaxy. They are a warrior race seen conquering many planets in the Marvel universe. They are also seen attempting to conquer Earth on multiple occasions in the comic books.

Villain #4 - Terminus

Terminus is an invention by the Terminex race, before they were wiped out by another race of aliens called the Celestials. The race sent out bio-engineered life form called as Termini into space. When anyone swallows the Termini they turn into a robot. The robots eat metal and radioactive material to grow bigger. Two big robots then come together and merge to form the formidable Terminus.

Villain #5 - Blastaar

Blastaar is a physically strong ape like alien. He was the ruler of the planet Baluur in the Negative Zone, before his subjects rebelled against him and cast him out. The character is seen attempting to conquer Earth in the comic books.
