‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ TV Series – Footage Shows Rocket Raccoon Meeting Peter Quill [Watch Video]
Marvel has announced the launch of "Guardians of the Galaxy" TV series. The series will premiere in 2015 on Disney XD channel. The announcement was made at the New York Comic Con 2014 event. The producers also released a test footage of the show for the fans.
The test footage shows the animated character Rocket Raccoon running from what appears to be a futuristic drone. The fire power of the drone fails to stop the more agile Rocket Raccoon. He eventually uses a twin barrel machine gun to destroy the drone. At this point he meets Peter Quill.
The plot of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" TV series is expected to follow the events of the movie. The superheroes were introduced to each other in the movie and eventually formed a strong bond of friendship while fighting the main villain Ronan the Accuser. The main villain in the animated series is still not known, but fans of the franchise expect Thanos to be back.
The five superheroes include Rocket Raccoon, a tree-like humanoid Groot, the green skinned fighter Gamora, warrior Drax and the leader of the outfit, Peter Quill, also known as Star Lord. Peter is the only character from earth, although his father may be an alien.
The true identity of Peter Quill's father is expected to be revealed in "Guardians of the Galaxy" 2, slated to be released in 2017. The movie will be written and directed by James Gunn once again. The plot and main villain of the movie has still not been revealed by the producers.
Production has already begun on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" TV series. It will be produced by Marvel Television. The creative team for the project includes executive producer Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada and Jeph Loeb.
The producers will be banking on the huge fan following of the franchise following the success of the movie. "Guardians of the Galaxy" was the biggest release of Aug 2014 in North America. According to official press release by Marvel the movie went on to make over $94 million on the opening weekend. The franchise now joins the ranks of "Avengers" and "Spider-Man" as one Marvel's biggest franchise.
