Guns N' Roses is set to headline the V8 Supercar race in Sydney.

The US rock band have announced that they will be coming to Australia for the first time since 2007 for the celebration of the Sydney motor race's return, which will be held at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, December 4.

Organisers have confirmed that Telstra 500 will be the rockers' only Sydney date, although they have not ruled out gigs in other cities.

The Guns will arrive following an extensive tour of Europe and will give fans live performances of the tracks from Chinese Democracy.

The album was nine years in the making before it was released in 2008 by Axl Rose, the only remaining original member of Guns N' Roses, a band that has made over 100 million record sales worldwide since they were formed in 1985.

In the meantime, skateboard legend Tony Hawke will also be present at the Sydney race and is set to give daily shows over the weekend.

With its successful inaugural outing last year, the motor race is expected to bring in 200,000 fans this time.

Tickets go on sale from Monday, July 19.
