The actor defeated other actors like Brian F O'Byrne, Tom Wilkinson, James Woods and Paul Giamatti for the award.

Guy Pearce recently appeared in "The King's Speech," "The Road," "Animal Kingdom" and "The Hurt Locker."

"Mildred Pierce" protagonist Kate Winslet also went home with the award for Best Actress in a Mini-series.

Who is Mildred?

"Mildred Pierce" is the story of the strife of a divorced woman who put up a restaurant in California in 1930s. The story revolved around her experiences and struggles with rearing her children. Guy Pearce played the role of Mildred's lover Monty Beragon.

This is not the first time that "Mildred Pierce" garnered recognition. The James Cain highly-acclaimed novel was made into a movie in 1945, which starred Joan Crawford as Pierce. Crawford bagged the Oscar Award for Best Actress that year.
