In the latest "Wrecking Ball' video by Miley Cyrus, the pop star can be seen swinging naked on a large, metallic ball which prompted a mix of reactions from fans and critics. Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video generated 19.3 million views 24 hours after it was first posted on Vevo.

In an attempt to imitate their idol, a group of students from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in the US state of Michigan paid homage to Miley Cyrus in a parody video of "Wrecking Ball".

The making of the GVSU "Wrecking Ball" parody videos has prompted the university to remove the school's wrecking ball version or the 42-inch bifilar pendulum. GVSU placed the metal ball in storage and away from Miley Cyrus wannabes.

GVSU Associate Vice-President for Facilities Services Tim Thimmesch said the college is currently re-evaluating the safety and structural purpose of the said 42-inch pendulum. Mr Thimmesch said that after the installation is deemed safe, students will see it back in the same location or somewhere more appropriate for students to appreciate it as a work of art.

GVSU students protested the college's removal of the metal ball and gather around the empty space where the ball was once placed. Students cheered and sang Miley Cyrus' song, "Wrecking Ball" as a sign of protest.

The protest has apparently reached Twitter with students calling school officials to #reinstalltheball.

Students said that if Miley Cyrus can swing around naked on a wrecking ball, they could too. They felt it was unfair since the school removed the metal sculpture which left students with nothing to swing around anymore.

GVSU officials had nothing against students wanting to become Miley Cyrus and attempt to become a YouTube sensation for posting parody videos. Mr Thimmesch said the school was simply "concerned" for the safety of students.

The GVSU Wrecking Ball account on Twitter is encouraging everyone who wants to reinstall the ball to meet at the school's clock tower, bring their IDs and $10 cash. Shirts are being sold to those who want to #reinstalltheball.
