Gwen Stefani Launches Casual Clothing Line with Denim Guru
Gwen Stefani already has two clothing lines and numerous collaborations, but she never rests on her laurels in the fashion industry.
The Hollaback Girl singer recently teamed up with Michael Glasser, the man behind denim brands 7 For All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity, to create a clothing line that is entirely different from L.A.M.B. which she started almost ten years ago.
Gwen talks to Women's Wear Daily about this new clothing line named DWP, which stands for Design with Purpose.
"You have access to all these clothes from all your lines. It's like my dream, and a lot of it is stuff I actually dreamed up. But I'm always still missing those pieces and it's so annoying, and I don't mean to be greedy, but it's the same with everyone."
"I'm like, 'OK, am I really going to wear that again?' So this [collaboration] is about trying to find that piece that is super wearable but you still feel cool in," Gwen explains.
According to Michael Glasser, the clothing line was supposed to be almost-all-denim until a Neiman Marcus told him, "If you show me another five-pocket jean, I'm going to punch you." The line was then revised to come up with the 18-piece collection that it is today.
The collection is comprised of a few wardrobe basics plus items that exudes a rocker-boyish vibe and a slouchy tapered pant, an item similar to what Gwen wears often.
"I was trying to get all the basics. Michael nailed the bottoms. For tops, I was trying to think about what I wear besides a tank top. I love cuffed-up sleeves, tops that are long in front and short in back. And we did a jumpsuit and a dress to fill in the gaps," Gwen shares.
Each item in the DWP collection, which are made in a factory in Los Angeles, will sell for around $80 to $130 starting on Spring 2014.
