Gwyneth Paltrow Believes Goop Website Can Become A 'Stand Alone' Brand
Gwyneth Paltrow herself is putting out there that her own site “Goop” was launched without much thinking on her part. However, even though she thinks shei is“a fool” for launching the site that was misunderstood by many, she envisions the site as a "standalone" brand in the future.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television’s “Market Makers,” the actress-turned-lifestyle-guru said that she was a fool for launching the e-commerce site Goop in 2008, without finding out first all that it would be entailed of her. However, she said that ever since launching it, it has been a “rewarding” experience that she is learning from every day.
The 42-year-old “Iron Man” star also said that the criticisms received by “Goop” were often from people who misunderstood what the site is all about and what it could offer. She said that people who had negative things to say about it are the same people who did not actually visit the site. “I think sometimes that some of the criticism that goop gets is because people haven’t actually gone to the site and looked around to see what we actually are,” she said.
The actress also said that she has grand visions for the site and is looking forward to it becoming so successful that her children can run it if they want to. She also looks forward to the day when the site will be running smoothly as a “standalone brand” even without her constant presence. “My dream would be that in 20 years people would sort of recollect that I maybe had something to do with it … and my involvement would be less essential.” As of now, she is happy that the site is running because of behind it is a “team of amazing people who bring incredible ideas.”
Back in Sept 2014, Gwyneth caught flak for her work on the Goop website from none other than master lifestyle guru Martha Stewart herself. In an interview with Net-a-Porter’s magazine, Martha said the actress should just stick to acting and stop having illusions of being another “Martha Stewart.” Gwyneth responded to the jibe by saying she is flattered that Martha would view Goop as a competition.
