Hacker Breaks in at a US Limo Company and Obtains Personal Information of A-List Celebrities Like Lebron James, Donald Trump, and Actor Tom Hanks
A hacker has managed to have broken in the database system of CorporateCarOnline, as reported by Krebsonsecurity.com.
The company apparently handles limousine reservations and car services for many A-list celebrities. The hacker has obtained significant data of about 1 million clients, including credit card information and other personal details. What is more? Well, the stolen information only contains the records of just about what happened inside the limousine, and it is not limited to vomiting, smoking, or even sex.
The breach at CorporateCarOnline took place over a month ago, as confirmed by the chief information security officer of the Milwaukee-based Hold Security, Alex Holden. "The credit card numbers, personal details, pick-up information, as well as drop-off information were stolen.
"The repercussions on the confidentiality and privacy of this incident are very alarming," said Holden.
Some of the celebrities whose data has been compromised include basketball superstar Lebron James, business mogul Donald Trump, actor Tom Hanks and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Some lawmakers, who also became victims of the said breach of system, include Rep John Conyers, Sen Mark Udall, Rep James Saxton, Sen Tom Daschle and Rep Jim Matheson. Top executives such as Morgan Stanley's Michael D. Gimes, Boeing Director Bruce Chesley and Lego Corporation Chief Executive Officer Jorgan Vig Knudstorp were also among the victims.
Lebron and all the personalities named above have not yet commented on the incident.
This is a very interesting story. Now that that technology is being widely used for almost every transaction, we all have to be vigilant and cautious of our personal data, especially the company that we entrust our information to. We wonder if all the clients have been notified about the said breach. It is going to be perturbing if the limo company did not advise those affected at all. The company has to work fast and enforce powerful security software so that they get to keep their clients.
