Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 opened strong in the box office, proving once more that franchise rules the box office. It easily passed the $100 million mark over the weekend, amassing $125, 120, 000 in ticket sales.

The seventh film in the Harry Potter franchise also posted the sixth biggest opening of all time, behind, The Dark Knight, Spiderman 3, Twilight Saga: New Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Iron Man 2. It is also the second strongest opening for the month of November, behind Twilight Saga: New Moon.

As could be noted, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 failed to smash its rival franchise, Twilight Saga, which is also on its final two-parts installment. Twilight Saga: New Moon is far up in the biggest opening of all time when it posted $296,623,634 on its opening last year, and ranked thrid on the list while the Deathly Hallows Part 1 ranked sixth. The vampire flick also beat Deathly Hallows Part 1 when it comes to opening in the same period, with a 24% drop in ticket sales.

However, Deathly Hallows Part 1 did post the best Potter opening since Half-Blood Prince. It posted 23% higher ticket sales compared to the previous Potter film. But in terms of the actual tickets sold (attendance, it still paled in comparison to the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Goblet of Fire.
