From the Tardis to the big screen, Doctor Who crosses space and time for the fans' viewing pleasure.

The legendary Doctor Who is said to hit the big screen and who better to direct this than another legend himself, David Yates. After directing the last four Harry Potter films, Yates is now set to film the movie adaptation of the long-running television series.

Despite Yates' promise to stick to small franchise movies after the finale of the worldwide phenomena, Harry Potter, the director is again sucked into the controversial world of film. David Yates along with teams from BBC are now in the works to create the movie of Doctor Who, the ageless Time Lord.

This long-running science fiction TV series that is taking the world by storm currently stars Matt Smith. Doctor Who is simply about a time and space-travelling doctor who has the ability to be incarnated as a different person each time. Accompanied by a human companion, Doctor Who goes on a whirlwind of adventures that has got viewers hooked. With an incredible back story and various situations perfect for the big screen, this series that started off in the year 1963 is just one of the longest running television series. The show is now on its sixth season and with the current Doctor Who, Matt Smith, as the eleventh doctor to boot.

What does Director David Yates have in say for the movie to be filmed?

"The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time," says Yates. "We're looking at writers now. We're going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena," says the director in an interview by Variety.

With the Harry Potter movies over and a seemingly awesome job done on the films too, it won't come as a surprise that the Doctor Who movie that will soon hit the theaters will be a huge success as well.

However fans of the television show shouldn't count on seeing Smith or the lately popular David Tennant to be stars on the big screen, as Yates wanted a transformation and starting everything from scratch.
