‘In the Heart of the Sea’ star Chris Hemsworth praises Tom Holland as new Spider-Man
Chris Hemsworth praised his “In the Heart of the Sea” co-star Tom Holland for grabbing the Spider-Man role. The Australian actor agreed with Marvel’s choice of actor to play as Peter Parker, saying that the studio could not have found a better teenager to portray the character well.
Hemsworth revealed in an interview with Cinema Blend that he had put in a good word for Holland while the young star was still auditioning for the iconic role. He had rained praises on the teen when he told Marvel Studios executives that Holland is fit for the role because of how he values his work.
The actor recalled how he had told the “guys at Marvel” that they’re “not going to meet a more appreciative and hard-working, talented actor” than Holland especially for his age. Hemsworth also said that he was “blown away” by “the amount of integrity and precision” the young actor has with his acting.”
In the same interview with Cinema Blend, Hemsworth also attributed Holland’s gymnastic skills as another factor that contributes to his role as Spider-Man. As a gymnast, Holland can do his stunts himself. There will reportedly be no need for a stunt man when Peter Parker has to do his Spider-Man flips.
“So, it’s nice, I reckon, when you know, you’re not having a stunt guy having to step in and do it. You’re going to have him doing it, and I think it’s going to be all the more authentic and impressive,” Hemsworth told Cinema Blend.
The 32-year old also talked about how Holland is just fascinated about superheroes. Holland reportedly has that “wide-eyed fascination” about these characters, which is integral for his portrayal of Spider-Man.
Andrew Garfield had previously also shared his support for Holland as the new Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man. Like Hemsworth, he also credited the 19-year old’s body and skills as a gymnast as very important factors in his portrayal of the Marvel superhero. Garfield also praised Holland for his acting skills and called him a “really really great actor.”
As for the young star, he admitted that taking on the role of Spider-Man is still “very daunting” for him. Holland told IGN that he still has a lot to learn about portraying Peter Parker considering that both Garfield and Tobey Maguire did such amazing jobs with the role in the previous films.
