Hero Shark Wrestler Losses Job
Paul Marshallsea, the a 62-year-old British national who had saved toddlers and other young children from becoming shark meal off Bulcock Beach in Queensland in January had been kicked out from his job after his bosses found out he was frolicking in the waters when he should be resting because he said he was sick.
Working as a charity worker at the Pant and Dowlais Boys and Girls Club children's charity, he was sacked because his employers lost their confidence in him.
Mr Marshallsea said he learned he has lost his job when they got back home to Merthyr Tydfil town. His bosses saw his saviour hero video that went viral. They may have felt proud to have had an employee who worked for them, but apparently, they consider the offense of lying a serious offense.
Mr Marshallsea said he they found letters from his their employers informing him and wife, who also worked for the Pant and Dowlais Boys and Girls Club children's charity, them that they had been fired.
Mr Marshallsea said the holiday leave with his wife was upon the advice of their doctor, all because of work-related stress.
"Where do I now get a job? There's not much call for shark wrestlers in Merthyr Tydfil," he told the WalesOnline website.
"If I hadn't gone in to save the kids on that beach that day my wife and I would still have a job," he said.
"You think being in charge and running a children's charity, they would have tapped me on the back."
Mr Marshallsea received worldwide praise after a local television crew taped him wading into the shallow waters, dragged by the tail A 6½ft dusky whaler shark and then dragged it to deeper water.
"Whilst unfit to work you were well enough to travel to Australia and, according to recent news footage of yourself in Queensland, you allegedly grabbed a shark by the tail and narrowly missed being bitten by quickly jumping out of the way," the charity's letter to Mr Marshallsea read.
