Three new images show Bard and the dragon Smaug in a fine battle in the upcoming movie "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies." The movie will mark the end of the trilogy, and fans can expect to see some heavy action and major deaths. [Warning: Spoiler Alert]

Bard is a resident of Lake-town and Smaug will be unleashing his wrath on the defenseless town in "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies." Three images of the two characters have been posted on EmpireOnline. One of the images show Bard in the midst of a battle and Smaug setting Lake-town on fire.

The previous movie showed the dwarves were able to drive out Smaug from the lonely mountain. The dragon will now set its eyes on the people of Lake-town to get revenge. Bilbo Baggins had noticed the dragon's weak spot in the previous movie. Will Bard succeed in killing the dragon where his ancestors failed?

Overcoming the dragon will not be the only challenge for the heroes of Middle-earth in "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies." The trailer of the movie shows Thranduil will arrive at the gates of the Lonely Mountain to reclaim something that belongs to him.

But perhaps the elves do not know that Sauron has secretly sent his army of orcs to claim the lands and riches of the Lonely Mountain. Will the elves be forced into a battle with the orcs in "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"? Kili can be seen in the trailer saying he will not stand by while others fight their battles.

Bard is seen fighting the vast orc army. Dwarves, men and elves may need to fight together if they want to win this battle against their common enemy Sauron. The trailer of the movie shows Bard riding alongside Thranduil.

The two other images from "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" are of Smaug. Readers only got a brief glimpse of the dragon in the previous videos and pictures. The two new pictures show the dragon up close.

Fans of the franchise eagerly await the release of the movie. The movie is slated to be released on Dec. 26, 2014 in Australia.
