A new trailer of "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" reveals what is at stake in the upcoming movie. Bilbo Baggins is seen showing rare courage and talks about fighting to the death. The other character to note is Bard the Bowman. [Warning: Spoiler Alert!]

Fans of the franchise who have seen the previous movie will know that Sauron has secretly dispatched a legion of orcs under Azog to the Lonely Mountain. An army of Elves will also be reaching the mountain in the upcoming movie led by Thranduil.

But what is at stake is not only the vast riches of the Lonely Mountain but also the fate of Middle-earth. The strategic location of the mountain stronghold may become a launch pad for the orcs to attack the other kingdoms. The trailer of "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" shows Gandalf saying that Rivendell, Lorien and the Shire will fall if the enemy gains this important foothold.

These kingdoms are located to the west of the Lonely Montain. With the south west being Mordor, the fall of these kingdoms will mean that powerful kingdoms like Rohan and Gondor will be surrounded by the enemy, and the future of the Middle-earth will be doomed.

The Shire is home to Bilbo Baggins and many of his kind. He is seen telling Gandalf that this will be a fight to the death. They will be facing a vast army of orcs and the elves will have to choose between fighting for what they think is owed to them by the dwarves and the evil that the orc army represents.

Bard the Bowman may emerge as a prominent figure in "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies." He is seen emerging as a leader and inspiring the men to fight the orcs. His biggest challenge will be to bring down the dragon Smaug before it totally destroys Lake-town.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" is slated to be released on Dec. 26, 2014 in Australia. The movie will bring to an end the epic journey of Thorin and his company of dwarves. Will Thorin rule as the new King under the Mountain? Or will his greed for gold be his undoing?
