A new behind the scene clip of "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" shows the director, Peter Jackson, explaining a scene to Lee Pace. The scene is about King Thranduil talking to the captured dwarf party and its leader Thorin. [Spoiler Alert]

Orlando Bloom, who plays Legolas in the movie, described the character of Thranduil as someone who had "ethereal meanness." The director is seen describing the role of the king to Lee Pace. The King of the Elves, Thranduil, is responsible for maintaining the order in the world and maintaining the balance, much like a superpower.

One "rogue nation," however, threatens this balance by doing things only in its self interests. Lee Pace is seen joking that the "rogue nation" could be New Zealand. One of the cast members is also seen commenting on the height of Lee Pace and his "pointy crown." Click here to watch the video.

Many of the fans commenting on the video remarked at how good Lee Pace looked in the role of Thranduil. The actor will be reprising his role in the upcoming movie "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies." The producers of the show released a new poster of Thranduil and his army. Readers who have seen the previous movie from the franchise and even by looking at the clip will know that the king of Elves does not enjoy a strong bond of friendship with the dwarves. The dwarves, however, were able to reclaim their ancestral home in the Lonely Mountain and drive out the dragon Smaug.

That, however, was only the beginning. They will now have to fight a legion of orcs led by Azog the Defiler in "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies." The posters and the trailer of the upcoming movie shows the army of the elves will be joining the battle.

But is it Legolas who will be able to convince his father to take the battle to the orcs in "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies"? The movie is slated to be released on Dec. 11, 2014 in New Zealand, Dec. 12 in UK, Dec. 17 in the U.S. and on Dec. 26 in Australia.
