Katy Perry and Russell Brand are rumored to having marriage problems and spending some time apart. Is the California Girl on her way to becoming single again as well?

The rumor mill has been working in overdrive with speculation that things are not going as smoothly between singer Katy Perry and husband Russell Brand.

A source confirms to "E!News" that Katy and Russell have been having problems and that the couple have been spending a lot of time apart including the Christmas season. True enough, the "Teenage Dream" singer was spotted swimming in a bikini sans her hubby in Hawaii over the holiday weekend while Russell was reportedly in England.

Our source adds that things began getting tense between the two in early December and that Katy has been a mess about it at times. The newlyweds were reportedly planning to escort her parents to London to see where the comedian grew up.

Unfortunately, that bonding experience never happened. Katy spent the holiday in Hawaii and Russell spent it in England. The question is why.

A source told "US Weekly" that a fight filled with loads of f-bombs and plenty of frustration culminated with Perry saying that she might as well do her own thing while Russell does his flying to London. If the rumors are to be believed by many, the bickering was precipitated by how Russell treats Katy's parents and friends, which made it a very logical reason for the couple to fight.

Regardless of why it happened, Perry was photographed without her wedding ring. However, since she spent much of her vacation on the beach, it is possible that the ring was simply removed for safe-keeping rather than losing it. Their marriage may be in trouble but there is always a chance that Perry and Brand will be able to work things out.
