Homeland's veteran actor, James Rebhorn died at the age of 65. The actor had played several memorable supporting characters both on TV and the movies, and his loss is greatly felt across Hollywood. His agent Dianne Busche confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that the actor died from melanoma, a condition that he has been battling ever since his diagnosis back in 1992.

"He died from melanoma, which had been diagnosed in 1992," Busch stated. "He fought it all this time. He died Friday afternoon at his home in New Jersey, where he had been receiving hospice care for a week and a half."

Aside from playing the father of Claire Danes' troubled CIA officer Carrie Mathison on Homeland, he was also most notable on Seinfeld. He played the district attorney that caused Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer to be jailed. He was also the FBI expert in the comedy My Cousin Vinny in 1992. He played recurring roles on memorable shows like Third Watch, The Book of Daniel, Law and Order, Big Lake and more others.

The actor also worked in epic movies such as "Meet the Parents," "Scent of a Woman," and "Independence Day." TMZ shares.

James was also a stage actor, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A mainstay of the Roundabout Theatre Company, his recent work had him portraying a father stricken with Alzheimer's in "Too Much, Too Much, Too Many."

Despite his battle against skin cancer, his wife Rebecca claims that the actor insisted on working instead of resting, TMZ shares. He was battling the worst of his cancer even though he showed none of this battle in his theater performance in January.

It comes as no surprise therefore that several actors across Hollywood were affected, expressing their sadness through twitter.
