‘Home and Away’ Actor Jackson Gallagher Describes Ice-Climbing Terror in New Zealand
“Home and Away” star Jackson Gallagher has described his fear during a trip to New Zealand. The 24-year-old Aussie actor was with other climbers during an ice-climbing expedition at the Franz Josef glacier when they were forced to run for their lives.
They were climbing the mountains when massive boulders the actor described as “the size of cars” came tumbling down on them.
“It was a surreal experience, I was relieved no one was hurt,” Gallagher told news.com.au of the misadventure. “Something like this is a reminder of a nature’s unpredictability.”
The climbers had little choice but to take cover at the edge of a designated helipad, waiting for the boulders to stop descending. Moments later, the fall stopped, but a second trigger began.
Fellow climber Krystle Morley also described their near miss to the Yorkshire Post, saying, “Boulders the size of cars and fridges were flying past us, and one the size of a microwave seemed to skim past my head.”
The British tourist continued, “When the second rockfall happened my sense of humour failed – I just wanted to get off the ice. I just thought, ‘Get me out of here’ – whereas before I was thinking, ‘Yes, I am alive.’”
Gallagher plays Josh Barrett in the Australian soap. Just recently, Josh’s half-brother Casey Braxton (Lincoln Younes) died when he was shot by Jake Pirovic (Fletcher Humphrys). Casey was trying to save the kidnapped Josh when he met his untimely demise.
Meanwhile, newcomer Matt Little has confirmed that he will be staying in the show for at least two years. He has taken the role of Leah Patterson’s (Ada Nicodemou) son VJ after actor Felix Dean vacated the show.
