‘Homeland’ creator reveals plan for Carrie Mathison in season 7

Carrie Mathison is not yet done sneaking to the world of terrorists. She is coming back to her old job in “Homeland” season 7.
“Homeland” has been known for its terrorism-focused plotline and Carrie (Claire Danes) in the centre of all of these. But in the previous season and in the current sixth instalment, Carrie is no longer with the CIA and the storyline became more politically charged. This will change in the seventh season.
Showrunner Alex Gansa has revealed their plan for the character in season 7 and that is bringing her back to the work that she does best. He teased that viewers will have an idea on where Carrie is heading after they watch the season 6 finale.
“But one thing we have to do is that we have to get Carrie Mathison back into the intelligence business. She’s been out of the game too long, and the game needs her back,” Gansa told the audience at the recent Television Academy Emmy screening.
Danes, on the other hand, discussed her character's lack of love life this season. “I actually think there are a lot of romances at play with Carrie this season, they’re just not sexual. She feels a deep intimacy with people […] and that it’s very intense with Quinn, and with Saul, and Frannie. She has deep, complex attachments to these primary characters,” the actress said.
Meanwhile, “Homeland” cast members and crew also discussed the storyline of this season, which are presidential election of a female candidate and fake news, during the show’s panel at the screening. Gansa along with EP Lesli Linka Glatter and cast members Danes, Mandy Patinkin (Saul Berenson), Rupert Friend (Peter Quinn) and Elizabeth Marvel (President Elizabeth Keane) attended the event.
Gansa admitted that Donald Trump’s election victory made them change the narratives of season 6. CNN noted that the show writers were in the middle of laying down episode 5 of season 6 when Trump emerged as winner in the recent US presidential election.
“The first thing we wanted to address was that our election was influenced by another force, and by fake news. So we re-engineered some of the earlier episodes,” Gansa said.
The series has been renewed in August 2016 for two more seasons. “Homeland” season 6 finale airs on Sunday (April 9) at 9:00 p.m. pn Showtime. The finale will air in Australia’s Channel Ten on May 1.
