'Homeland' season 5 finale recap: Quinn succumbs to death; Saul grants Ivan witness protection in exchange for Allison
'Homeland' season 5 finale recap
“Homeland” Season 5 ended on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Quinn (Rupert Friend) was presumed to have died when his condition got worse after he suffered a brain hemorrhage. Although Carrie (Claire Danes) was not shown pulling the plug, reports claim it seems absurd if Quinn will still be around in Season 6, so it would be better for fans to believe that he is gone.
In the Season 5 finale, titled “A False Glimmer,” the doctor explained to Carrie that even if Quinn recovers, he would still have severe brain damage. Dar (F. Murray Abraham) gave Carrie the letter that she would have received if Quin had not survived the Syrian mission previously.
“Carrie. I guess I’m done. And we never happened,” the letter read. Quinn wrote that he always believed that he was always being pulled back into the darkness and was not allowed a real life or a real love. With Carrie, he thought that maybe he would have something just like what normal people have. He continued and said that he asked for his death.
“Just think of me as a light on the heavens. A beacon. Steering you clear of the wrongs. I loved you,” Quinn wrote.
Meanwhile, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) had an agreement with Ivan. He would grant the latter witness protection in the United States if he successfully delivers Allison (Miranda Otto) to him. Ivan determined Allison’s location while she was trying to cross the order in the trunk of a car. Saul immediately ordered his men to shoot at the vehicle, and Allison died immediately.
Carrie and Qasim were able to prevent the chemical weapons attack in the subway station in Berlin, too.
Carrie, through Saul, was also given a chance by the CIA to choose her next mission and to come up with her own team, but she refused. She told Saul that she is not the person she was before. Later, Otto (Sebastian Koch) also offered Carrie to become his partner at the During Foundation. She said that she would think about it.
Meanwhile, Laura (Sarah Sokolovic) and Numan (Atheer Adel) were arrested by the BND after they stoleimportant documents. Astrid tried to make a deal with Laura to publicly expose the late Marwan in exchange for not deporting her hacker friend Numan. Laura took the offer.
“Homeland” Season 5 finale episode was created by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon and directed by executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter. Season 6 is set to premiere in 2016, but the exact air date is yet to be announced.
