Spoiler alert! This article contains "Homeland" spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.
The “House of Cards” actress will be seen on the show as President Elizabeth Keane, a former junior senator who is yet to be officially inaugurated as President, and has been described as bright, charming, blunt and lively, says a post in Screencrush .
She also had recurring roles in other TV Series which include “Law and Order,” “Person of Interest,” and “Fargo,” according to TV Line . The announcement of her new role just came shortly after a real world event wherein Hilary Clinton is nominated as a Presidential candidate for the United States.
It is very notable that her new role appears very parallel in her prior role in “House of Cards.” President Marvel has maintained a very visible presence in “House of Cards” as former United States Solicitor General Heather Dunbar, who later sought the presidency against Frank Underwood, to be nominated under the Democratic Party.
It has already been announced that the upcoming sixth season of “Homeland” involves a move to New York City. It will feature the after effects of a presidential election, more particularly the transition of power. It will take place within the two month period between the Election Day and the swearing in of the new President of the United States.
Screenwriter and producer Alex Gansa tells EW.com about this season by describing it as that strange period wherein there are 72 days and it’s not clear as to who exactly is in charge, and there is a new president who is about to step in who apparently needs to be educated as to how it is to become president. He adds that that time which involves a very complex transition of power is filled with all kinds of anxiety and competing forces, and is a dangerous time for democracy.
With the apparently parallel events of “House of Cards” and “Homeland”, the two franchises could be somehow, be sharing one universe.
“Homeland” season 6 will begin shooting in August and will premiere in January 2017 on Showtime. It also airs on Channel Ten in Australia.
