Homemade bomb sets a detention on fire in Sydney
A homemade bomb was uncovered in a computer room that had been set to explode at Villawood Dentention Center in Sydney on Saturday.
According to police reports, the explosive was made of a can of fly spray wrapped in a towel that had been drenched in canola oil. Police found out that canola oil was also spread all around the room.
The fire, which affected nine buildings, was extinguished by the guards at Villawood even before the NSW Fire and Rescue arrived. The police were called right after the explosive was discovered. "While the fire had been extinguished by staff at the center, police discovered a homemade device consisting of a number of potentially flammable items," a police spokeswoman related.
One detainee at Villawood accounted that the homemade bomb was placed in the Fowler complex where a riot broke out a month ago.
Moreover, the fire sparked an on-air clash between Chris Bowen and Ray Hadley. This after 2GB radio presenter accused the Department of Immigration and Citizenship “as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike.” Immigration minister Bowen, on the other hand, said he was unaware of the incident when it was raised for him to answer.
