Google Nexus 7 2 is being sold in the United Kingdom from £199 to £239, depending if it's 16GB or 32GB. However, the upcoming revamped version of Apple iPad Mini is coming on September 10 running iOS 7 with Retina display screen. So, how to make the Nexus 7 2 fit your way than buying for a much expensive iPad mini?

Greasy Screen Syndrome

Unlike with the iPad mini, Google Nexus 7 2 can carry smears and fingerprint smudges no matter how beautiful the 1920 x 1200 display screen is. Bringing a piece of micro-fibre cloth isn't exactly stylish and it is very inconvenient to have your shirt or trousers wiping all those grease all the time.

Visit ASUS or Google for any services to have the screen coated or covered with anti-smearing stuff to protect Nexus 7 2 from grease. If they cannot offer you anything, there are some third-party providers ready for you.

Nexus 7 2 Cover or Sleeve

Aside from protecting the screen from dust and smudges, Nexus 7 2 exterior must be protected as well from scratches or accidental bumps to make it lustre for many years to come. Google is offering Nexus 7 2 owners a tablet sleeve for only $30 from the U.S. Google Play Store. Although it is not revolutionary, at least it has an extra protective layer with style compared to standard protective cases.

Issues on Power & Volume Keys

If the top-right position keys of the Nexus 7 2 bothers you a lot, there are ways to make it a little less hassling. Press the volume keys once and drag the volume level instead of keep pressing the rockers. In terms of power button, there are apps from the Goggle Play Store which can act as virtual power keys using the proximity sensor. One application would be the Button Saviour to get soft keys on your screen and can be customised to control home, menu, power, back and other buttons.

Alternative Applications

Some apps from the Google Play Store aren't optimised yet for tablets and hopefully, both Android 4.3 and Android 5.0 can optimise them in some way. Most social applications are optimised due to developers' effort but if you are suffering from, try looking for alternatives such as Flipboard which is very good in tablet viewing compared to the phone version. It synchronises most social and news feeds in one app.

Boring Interface and Looks

Google Nexus 7 2 comes with pure Android vanilla UI which can be boring eventually. But Android is highly customisable and if you want to get the best look there is, visit Google Play Store. Here are some easy apps you can install to give the Nexus 7 2 a makeover:

- Nova Launcher

- Apex Launcher

- TSF Shell

- Next Launcher 3D

- SPB Shell 3D

These launchers have theme support and add-ons which can be used to further customise your Nexus 7 2 tablet. Not only they give glamorous icons, most of them even have transitional animation which can be very cool than the Vanilla UI.
