South Australian residents Carly Schulz and Leighton Brow are the winners of "House Rules." The young couple have beaten veteran renovators Steve and Michelle Ball at the live finale of the Channel 7 hit renovations show on Monday night.

As the winners voted by the public through online and phone call, Carly and Leighton now enjoy the grand prize of having their $460,000 mortgage paid in full by the show.

"We are the luckiest people in all of Australia," an ecstatic Carly, 31, said after host Johanna Griggs announced them as winners.

"We just want to thank Australia. I want to thank this beautiful girl here. I couldn't have done it without her. We want to thank all of the contestants," 32-year-old Leighton added.

The couple initially had trouble following instructions from each other, but they quickly learned as they handled one project after another in the show.

Carly, a flight attendant and part-time retail assistant, admitted that she had to follow her partner's lead. Leighton is a carpenter for his family's building company.

"Leighton's talent for renovating is amazing and, unlike me, he has done thousands of renovations and is a real work horse, so he has all the skills we need. I will just have to listen to him and do what he tells me."

After seven weeks and six renovated houses, the duo won the viewers' votes by transforming Steve and Michelle's basement into a dream entertainment room with modern bar and music sections. They have earned their spot in the final two teams with Steve, 49, and Michelle, 48, when they renovated fellow contestants Jemma and Ben's front yard.

They earned 31 points, just a point ahead of Steve and Michelle's 30 points.

The runners-up might still have to pay their mortgage on their own, but they still have their entire house fully renovated.

Meanwhile, wannabe contestants can try out for the show's second season. "House Rules" had been a ratings winner for Seven, and the network wishes to extend its winning streak with another set of renovating challenges for couples who want their whole mortgage wiped off.

"We are delighted audiences have enjoyed the House Rule experience. And they're in for an even bigger ride in series two," Brad Lyons, director of network production, announced that they are accepting new applicants.
