How Emma Stone Annoyed Colin Firth With Her ‘Bridget Jones’ Texts
Emma Stone annoyed his “Magic in the Moonlight” co-star Colin Firth with her constant texting of “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.”
In an interview with The Daily Beast, the 25-year-old actress revealed how she bugged the 53-year-old Academy Award winner by being a massive fan of his movies.
“I’ve seen ‘Love Actually’ about 18 times. I’ve seen ‘Bridget Jones’ too many times now. You were so upset with me!” she told Colin.
“I live-text Colin the plot of ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’ a few months back while I was watching it. You were very upset with me, if I remember correctly. I talked him through what he was doing.”
Colin mock agreed, saying, “She’s talking through my back catalogue via text! I might decide to not revisit stuff in the past, and then you get a good friend saying, ‘Oh when you were doing this you had this and that expression on your face.”
The two play an unlikely pair in “Magic in the Moonlight.” Firth is Stanley, a renowned illusionist known as Wei Ling Soo. He is hired to expose Sophie (Emma), who claims she can communicate with the dead, as a fraud. But as he sets out to debunk the self-proclaimed psychic, he grows fond of her, complicating his job.
In real life, though, the two appeared to be fast friends, with Emma frequently teasing him.
“I backpacked through France and Italy in my teens, and then I was at Cannes with the first movie I did in ’84,” Colin recalled, to which Emma replied, “God... you were in a movie 115 years ago?”
“Oh God, here we go,” Colin just replied, giving the impression that Emma often taunts him with his age.
“Magic in the Moonlight” is written and directed by Woody Allen, and also stars Hamish Linklater, Marcia Gay Harden and Jacki Weaver.
It is released in the U.S. on June 25.
