Cobie Smulders, famous for her role in the hit television series How I Met Your Mother is set to star in the newest Avengers movie as an agent of SHIELD.

The superhero ensemble film will be directed by Joss Whedon. the actress is in final negotiations for the role as one of the vital members of the espionage agency SHIELD led by Nick Fury to be played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Other actors who have signed on for the Avengers star-studded ensemble film include: Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

The film will begin shooting in April.
