“How I Met Your Mother” is in its final season, but the storytelling will not end there. The CBS hit sitcom has announced a spin-off titled “How I Met Your Dad,” which will be told from a female perspective.

The U.S. network has confirmed that HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are moving forward with the new series. They will write and produce a pilot, which will follow the same premise as the current show.

Bays said that HIMYD will have new characters, but expect them to be introduced on the finale of HIMYM. What fans can expect are familiar faces to appear every now and then in the new show.

And as opposed to previous reports, the new gang of characters will not hang out in MacLaren’s Pub, the HIMYM characters’ favourite hangout place.

Thanks for the excitement about "How I Met Your Dad," folks! We didn't want to tweet about it till it was official! #HIMYD

Also #HIMYD probably won't be set in Maclarens -- new bar for a new show. And likewise the characters won't be introduced on #HIMYM . — Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 16, 2013

Oh and #HIMYD will feature lots of surprise crossover cameos, but it will be characters from Newhart.

Our hope is that #HIMYD becomes its own magical wonderful weird thing, and the two shows stand on their own side by side. — Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 16, 2013

Bays and Craig will be teaming up with executive producer Emily Spivey for the new show.

No definite date for the pilot’s schedule has been announced yet.

“How I Met Your Mother” is currently in its ninth and final season, with the last episode expected to air in late January or early February 2014. Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, and Neil Patrick Harris all reprised their roles.

The titular mother, played by Broadway actress Cristin Milioti, was already introduced in the season eight finale of the show.
