"How I Met Your Mother" will be back Monday on CBS after its holiday break. This episode (8X13) called "Band or DJ," challenges Barney Stinson to get the approval of his bride's father, Robin Scherbatsky, Sr. (guest star Ray Wise).

"When Robin learns that Barney never asked her father's permission before proposing, she insists that he seek his approval before announcing their engagement."

First, this teaser highlights that Barney felt it was more important to seek Ted's blessing than Mr Scherbatsky's approval about his planned proposal. Second, viewers can expect Barney will be given a series of challenges by Robin's dad. After all, this father has at least once pushed his teenage daughter from a chopper to the woods to develop her survival skills.

Mr Scherbatsky is not likely to go easy on Barney. But if fans could speak, there are a couple of things that Mr Scherbatsky must know about Barney.

1. Barney truly loves Robin. He likes that she is a take-charge girl. He likes that she makes silly decisions but bounces back from each fall. He knows she's a mess, but he loves her anyway.

2. Barney could have given Robin a hard time when she chose Kevin over him. But he just collected the rose petals he secretly scattered on her bed. And then he moved on.

3. When hurricane Irene struck New York, Barney thought it was lame that Mr Scherbatsky didn't call his daughter soon enough. He couldn't bear to see her hurting.

4. Barney tried to make it work with two other gorgeous women. But his heart has always belonged to his first real love.

5. Barney knew his bromance with Ted would suffer a blow but he took a risk anyway. He (creatively) sought his bestfriend's blessing before proposing to the girl they both love. He's a good friend and he strives for honor, in his own Stinson way.

6. Robin's resume failed to showcase her great qualities, so Barney worked on it. Because he knows what's truly great about Robin.

7. Barney is a loving son. That says a lot.

Fans can bet Mr Scherbatsky will see certain "despicable" things about Barney, but he will give his permission, anyway. Because he'll see one important thing: this guy takes care of his kid.
