How I Met Your Mother creators are still unable to determine whether or not Season 8 will be the last serving of the Manhattan-set sitcom.

In a recent interview with Cleveland.com, HIMYM co-creator Carter Bays said he and fellow show runner Craig Thomas have made two plans for the CBS show.

"We're still trying to determine whether it's one more year of the show or two more years," Bays said, adding, "We have a one-year plan and a two-year plan, and I think either version would be great."

Bays and Thomas have been the executive producers on HIMYM since the sitcom premiered in September 2005.

"It's very rare that a show has the same show runners from the beginning to end," Bays said.

"The show kind of has evolved as our lives have evolved, reflecting the changes in our lives. So watching old episodes brings back what was going on in my life at the time." Bays added.

HIMYM Chronicles the Comedy in Creator's Life

What is going on in Bays life now is that he is expecting his second child with his wife Denise, Cleveland.com reports. (He may have used some of the comedy at home in creating scenes for Lily and Marshall on the show.)

Meanwhile, Bays and Thomas are going to be considerably busier, as they have worked with writer Chris Harris to create a new show called "The Goodwin Games." It is another comedy for Bays and Thomas, but this one is for Fox midseason.

Fans share different views on the show. Some fans say they are ready to say goodbye to HIMYM; others say two more seasons couldn't hurt.

Bays had previously told The Hollywood Reporter he was not expecting the hit sitcom to last beyond Season 4.

"We know how we want to end it. Midway through the first season, we had an idea of, 'OK, this will be a cool ending for the story,' thinking it will be a good ending for season four when the show gets canceled. We didn't expect it to go this long," Bays said.

As most of the cast have expiring contracts at the end of Season 8, HIMYM fans would have to wait a bit longer to find out whether they are getting the last season installment of the hit comedy.
