Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware is now possible with the ASUS Nexus 7 2012 model and it will include new features such as Wi-Fi location scanning, Bluetooth Low Energy and improved multi-user with restrictive profiles.

Requirements

- Create a backup of all your personal settings and data files on your tablet.

- Make sure that the battery level is at least 50 per cent.

- Enable USB debugging mode. Go to "Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging."

- Download and install ADB Tool Kit to your computer.

- Select and download the appropriate Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Firmware for your tablet variant to your computer.

Warning: This is a manual flashing of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in case the OTA release hasn't reached your device yet. We are not liable for any damages which may happen on your device. Read and follow the instructions properly to avoid damaging your device. Do this at your own risk.

Flashing Instructions

1. Create a new folder on your computer and rename it to "Android."

2. Extract the contents of the downloaded Android 4.3 firmware to the "Android" folder.

3. Unpack the "tgz" (tar/gz) archive and then unzip the files contained inside. Once unpacked and unzipped, all files are inside the same folder.

4. Connect your ASUS Nexus 7 tablet to the computer using a USB cable. Make sure that the ADB tool kit is installed.

5. Shift + Right click on the "Android" folder to open a command window.

6. Follow the commands to reboot into fastboot mode and install the new update:

adb reboot bootloader

fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper-4.23.img

fasboot reboot-bootloader

fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot flash boot boot.img

fastboot format cache

fastboot reboot

7. The tablet will reboot on its own and patiently wait till it reaches the home screen.

8. Your device should be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Go to "Settings > About device > Android version."

In case of boot loop, turn off the device and reapply the update.

Android 4.3 Jelly firmware list on Google Web site includes other Android versions, ASUS Nexus 7 have two software in the list under the code name "nakasi" and "nakasig" with Android 4.3 JWR66V build number.
